Today’s coffee-break sketch is my OC alien character ‘Ook’.

World Building Wed-some-thing-or-other!

I actually have some original work that’s not just Boston Terriers and Pokemon being derp. It’s an idea that’s been kicking in my head for… 17-18 years now and my fiancee keeps pushing me to be more public about it. Tumblr seems a good place for this, so I’m going to try to post a bit about it here.

It started as a story I wrote when I was 7-ish, that I called Midnight Journey Into Space, about a girl who finds out her cat is an alien scout and sneaks onto his spaceship where, with his two other alien cat shipmates, they travel the galaxy for a little bit and fight the nasty Morkulok before dropping her off home.

There’s laser guns and spaceship chases and meteor surfing and all that fun stuff. It was very heavily based on Bruce Coville’s Aliens series, and this old book I loved called ‘I spent my summer vacation kidnapped into space’.

I mentioned it in a creative story thread online a few years back and people thought it was cool and so I started to work on it again. It’s since evolved into a girl, Amy, sneaking onto a ship owned by an adventurer type alien, Ook, and he likes the idea of company so he lets her stay on. Then the ship gets sucked through a wormhole and totally lost and now they need to try and find Earth again but in the meantime space adventures!

It’s become more of a Doctor Who/Stark Trek ToS episodic story than a one off, because I can’t stop thinking of storylines.

This is basically what I doodle out in my spare time.
